This collection of articles is dedicated to the memory and academic legacy of our colleague and friend François Brunet, who passed away on December 25th, 2018. François Brunet made a significant contribution to the development of visual studies in France. He was one of the Keynote Speakers for the 2017 Remediation conference that paved the way for this publication. It is with great emotion and gratitude that we publish his article today as a tribute to his passion for images, his commitment to research, and his truly outstanding and pioneering work.
